The last time we were asked to Find in a hadeeth the explanation of what happens in the grave.
The class submitted hadeeth # 422 Vol. 2 of Sahih Al Bukhari Narrated by Anas (Radiallaahu anhu): The Prophet (Sallaahu alaihe wa sallam) said, “When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears his footsteps, two angels come to him and make him sit up and as him: What did you use to say about this man Muhammad (Sallaahu alaihe wa sallam) ? He will say: I testify that he is Allaah’s slave and His Messenger. Then it will be said to him, Look at your place in the hellfire. Allaah has changed for you a place in Paradise instead of it! The Prophet (Sallaahu alaihe wa sallam) added, The dead person will see both places. But the disbeliever or hypocrite will say to the Angels: ‘ I do not know , but I use to say what the people used to say.’ It will be said to him, ‘ Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by following the Quran).’ Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between the two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by what-so-ever near to him except human being and jinn being.
We also found in the footnotes of The Noble Quran (referring to Surah 14 Ayah 27):
“..immediately after their death (in their graves), when the Angels (Munkar and Nakir) will ask them 3 questions: As to: (1) Who is your Lord? (2) What is your Religion? (3) What do you say about this man (Prophet Muhammad Sallaahu alaihe wa sallam) who was sent to you? The believers will give the correct answers, (1) My Lord is Allaah (2) My religion is Islam (3) This man Muhammaad Sallaahu alaihe wa sallam is Allaah’s Messenger, and he came to us with clear signs and we believed in him, while the wrong-doers who believed not in Muhammad’s Message will not be able to answer these questions. (Also found in Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Our brother added:
Your hearing is the last thing that goes when you die. The proof is you will hear the footsteps walking away from your grave.
(also refer to the Khutbah “Questions of the Grave” in the Beneficial Ilm section of my page for detail explanation)
He reminded us of the purpose of life which is explained in Quran (51:56) where Allaah states:
“And I have not created the jinn and mankind except for My worship alone”.
And gave us the definition for Tawheed- To single out Allaah alone in all worship.
We were asked to define worship (Ibadah). The class gave various answers and our brother gave us Ibn Taymiyyah’s (Rahimhu Allaah) defintion {who died in the year 728AH}:
Worship- It is a comprehensive term that is inclusive of everything that Allaah loves and is pleased with of statements and actions whether they are apparent or hidden.
Our brother explains:
- Anything you say or do that Allaah loves is worship.
- We know what Allaah love through revelations Allaah sent us.
- Dhkir, Salat, speaking knowledge etc. are apparent.
- statements and actions of the heart are hidden.
- having hope in Allaah’s mercy, having love for Allaah, True dependence upon Allaah and to fear His punishments are actions of the heart.
- Your statements of your heart are intentions (An Niyyah)
If Allaah does not love it or pleased with it, it is not considered worship to Allaah. Anyone who worships Allaah without proper knowledge is upon ignorance and misguidance.
We were given the three categories of Tawheed:
1. Tawheed Ar- Ruboobiyyah (Tawheed of Allaah’s Lordship)
2. Tawheed Al- Uloohiyyah (Tawheed of Allaah’s Worship)
3. Tawheed Al Asma was Sifaat (Allaah’s Names and Attributes)
Our homework was to give definition and evidence for Tawheed Ar Ruboobiyyah.
Please add or post any comments so that we may benefit Insha Allaah
Please forgive me if I made any mistakes in any of these posts. Those mistakes come from myself or the shaitan.
